KIX Appeals Safety and Vitality

Due to the global economic stagnation and spread of influenza A (H1N1) infection, the number of visitors to the Kansai region continues to drop sharply.
To try and counter this trend, Kansai International Airport Co., Ltd., Kansai business circle, and airlines operating at Kansai International Airport (KIX) ran a campaign to publicize KIX's safety and vitality on the 17th July. In the busy commercial areas of Umeda and Namba in Osaka, the campaigners declared KIX safe and handed out leaflets encouraging people to use KIX.
KIX invited overseas media to cover Kansai tourism as one of the measures to increase the number of visitors. Inviting Taiwanese media in June and Korean media in July, KIX showed popular sightseeing spots in Kansai District as well as highlighting the airport itself, showing the shops and restaurants popular with foreigners.

'The Association to Promote the Kansai International Airport Overall Plan' (Chairman; Hiroshi Shimozuma, Chairman of Kansai Economic Federation), which consists of Kansai municipal governments and business organizations, decided at the general assembly on the 16th July to offer an extra 20% of aid for landing charges for 3 years for airlines that start new services between KIX and long-distance destinations. This is to expand the existing aid program in order to attract long-distance services, especially targeting North America and Europe routes that have withdrawn from KIX in recent years. The combination of the Association's aid program and KIX's discount program, which is applied for additional tonnage or resumed passenger flights, will make it possible to offer a discount rate of up to 50%.
At present, the Association subsidizes financial incentives of 20% of the landing charge for the 1st year and 10% for the 2nd year to all international new services to ease the burden on airlines. This aid program will be expanded to 20% of the landing charge of U.S. and European routes for 3 years.
